Today I discovered what makes me a maverick. For a while I have been looking at the other "mavericks' " quilts and wondering when someone is going to realize that I don't belong! Don't get me wrong - I am honored to be here! But to me - I seem a bit boring compared to the rest of you. So back to my story...today I was working on a UFO that I discovered hiding in the pie safe (the UFO, not me!) I was working on the last border when a big thought hit me. I am sitting here wrestling with pieces that are supposed to fit but they don't. That when it occurred to me that I HATE TRYING TO FOLLOW SOMEONE ELSE'S PATTERN! I started thinking about my previous quilts. Most of them may be from traditional blocks - but I usually throw them together in my own crazy way. Yeah!! Maybe I am just a little bit maverick too!
So here is the quilt that was driving me crazy. At first I wasn't sure I liked it, but now that it has been hanging in my living room all afternoon, it has grown on me. The green setting triangles are fabric from my grandma's stash. Nina and I shared this inheritance! This fabric says "Ameritex 1962" along the selvage. This fabric is 7 years older than me! The good news is I still have about 2 yards of this fabric left to use in some other project. All the pictures should be clickable for a larger view.

I truley agree with you. I hate to follow some elses pattern. It seems the quilts I have the most trouble with are the quilts that I try to follow a pattern. I just piece together as I go along and all seems to come out well. Your quilts are wonderful.
What's not to like? How come you got 7 yards and I only got a 12" scrap???? Maybe that's the perk that goes with her being your grandma, huh? And hey, I can wax philosophical with the best of them- at least I am not trying to figure and reconfigure the span of the universe and the speed I am traveling through it- not today.
Well, I like it - and your quilts are "you". Don't sweat the small stuff!
Very nice and extra special because you have fabric from your granny in it. Thanks for sharing!
I think the green fabric is great! It really sets this quilt off.

I couldn't have said it better myself, Sarah! I'm with you all the way!
What a fun quilt! "Hiding in the pie safe..." You're too funny!
That green from your Gram is terrific! Do you ever wonder just what "they" look for when they want to reproduce Repros? I think this one should be added to the Repro list, don't you?
I love that green!! And that fabric is JUST as old as I am..I was born in Jan 62!! :c)
