Tuesdays in the South

Can anyone identify these flowers for me? They have mysteriously popped up on the hill in my backyard. My lilies are getting ready to bloom back there too. I also have a lovely assortment of weeds growing in the front flowerbeds! I am not a gardener or even just a weed picker! Maybe I could pay the kids 10 cents a weed!

I gave Ms Chatham her Wonky Houses quilt yesterday. She was so surprised! I was going to save it for her end of the school year gift, but I figured the kids wouldn't get to enjoy it then. She knew I had helped each child design their own house but she thought I was making a block for each child to take home. She was so excited that the quilt was for her.

We got the news yesterday that chicken pox is going around DD's school. The little girl that has it right now was vacinated. DD has been vacinated but DS hasn't! He is due to get his 5 year old shots next Thursday. There is also a rumor floating around that someone had measles last week.

Time to get hopping!

My son got the chicken pox vax and broke out the SAME DAY because it was going around. But the vax made his case less severe and shorter lived. The yellow flower looks like a basic wildflower we have around here, but the peach one looks like some kind of planted flower :) Maybe they are from one of those "sprinkle out the wildflower things" that look like carpet fresh and they drifted. They are pretty! xoxo melzie

Hi, Sarah, the yellow look like coreopsis and the multi like Mexican Blanketflower; I've had both in my yard, planted by me, but the Blanketflowers were overcome by oregano. They're very pretty!

I too think the yellow one is a coreopsis. That is a fairly hardy perennial that will seed itself also. Not sure on the other!! But it is beautiful!

I'm glad the others knew what the yellow flower was. I didn't know that one but I absolutely know the bottom orange one. It is a Gallardia - also called Blanketflower. Here's a link: http://www.sunriseseeds.com/Gallardia.0.html. I have these in my yard - they are a perrenial. I love them!

I concur. The yellow is coreopsis and the other is gallardia. Around here gallardia is only kept in check by making it a xeriscape plant -- little-to-no water. Otherwise it is a "thug" and takes over the flower bed.

I like both the flowers and concur about the blanketflower. I'm not a gardener either . . weeds are fine with me!

Good luck if your kiddos get the chickenpox!

Yup, coreopsis and gallardia for sure. We have both of them and like the thugs taking over the great spaces so I don't have to weed!
