New Year's resolution

Today is being spent reorganizing all my quilting stuff. My MIL is bringing me an old library table (36wide x 70 long x 30 high) that she used to have in her bedroom. After trying to decide where this table could go, I figured out that with a little reorganization, it would fit in my sewing room. The sad part is that it will have to replace the table my dad built me. I am hoping that the two side pieces (which the large shoe-box size plastic boxes fit perfectly in) will fit underneath the new table. I use the shoe boxes to organize current projects and notions.

Anyway.... in the process, I am reorganizing my closet, where the majority of my fabric is stored. Then that led to reorganizing the fabric in the cabinet above the dryer and I am sure that will lead to reorganizing the bottom of the pie safe!

I tell you all this in order to announce (again!) .....
NO FABRIC BUYING FOR ME THIS YEAR!!!

Who is going to join me?

You are a stronger soul than I: there is a Moda line coming out in February that I absolutely must get some fabrics from and then there are all those months to follow just filled with luscious fabric lines (!!)

I'll be buying fabric this year, but can understand why you might want to set up a mini fabric shop for yourself with your own materials so when you're bit with the bug you can "shop" :-) Good Luck!

How can I? It would be cruelty to (not so) small animals. Our National Quilt Symposium is in 2 weeks time and you are challenging me to NO FABRIC!! I can't, I can't, I can't, sob, sob, sob. . .

Okay, am I the only one up for the challenge? I promise to buy only the fabric I need to finish quilts, as I don't have any large pieces of fabric...very little that is suitable for borders or backs. As I write this, I'm thinking that I need to get backing for my sunflower quilt...I hope to be putting it in a show and don't want to have a pieced back, which was the original plan! But...that's legal since I need it to finish! :o) I'll join you Sarah...will we have some sort of secret handshake or anything?

Are you familiar with the Stashbusters yahoo group? If you aren't already a member it sounds right up your alley. Many of them take a no-buy pledge for a year and support each other in keeping that resolution. They also have a UFO challenge - that's what I participate in. Here is the website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stashbuster/

I will join you. I have already made this as my New Year resolution. No fabric unless I need it for a nonpieced back. Lets keep each other in check.

Where would the fun be in that? Ah come on Sarah. The point isn't to have fabric...to make quilts. The point is to HAVE FABRIC! You must have more co-ordinated fabric than I do. So little of my fabric goes together- depends on the mood I'm in when I shop! I'm pretty sure I couldn't make even one quilt without buying several yards of fabric to pull it all together. I just have little bits and pieces- except that brown and blue reproduction fabric- which needs a buddy!

So, we're saying there must be some exception to the NO BUYING rule, Nines?

It's genetic...I never seem to be able to finish a project without at least another yard.... :)

Nope I tried the no-buy thing last year. I lasted a whole month. Then fell off the wagon big time. So while I'm attempting to limit my purchases to only what I need for the project I'm currently working on I reserve the right to have a midnight splurge from any number of online shops when I feel the need for retail therapy. There's so many worse things I could be doing with my money I'm not even going to feel guilty about it. :-) But I'm happy encourage you in your no-buy attempt.

Sarah - I am with you, I am going to attempt to buy only what I need for a project and not what I think I need for those future unknown projects!

Are you for real? No fabric buying! What if you find nice fabric for a backing at $4.00 a yard, are you really gonna pass that up? lol I'm not joining you!Not enought self control! lol Good luck!
